First Interstate Bank – Full Site Civil

Project Spotlights
Sapphire completed a full-site civil package for the construction of a new First Interstate Bank in Columbia Falls, MT. The scope included topsoil stripping and export, importing structural fill to achieve subgrade elevations, and excavation for the building footprint and subgrade preparation. Our team also managed slab prep, backfill, wet and dry utility installation, site concrete and paving prep, and landscape grading to ensure a fully prepped and construction-ready site.

Project Challenges:
A key challenge on this site was the native sandy soil, which prompted geotechnical requirements for over-excavation. We excavated an additional two feet below all foundation footings, installed layers of geogrid and woven fabric for soil stability, and placed imported structural fill compacted to 98% density. This process ensured long-term ground stability but added a critical timeline step before foundation crews could begin work.
Final Touches
Once earthwork and utilities were complete, Sapphire coordinated closely with subcontractors to prepare the site for vertical construction. All grading was fine-tuned, utilities pressure-tested, and site access paths were maintained for safe crew movement. The result: a clean, stable, and structurally sound site, fully prepped for the next phase of development.
